What motivated you to enroll in the part-time programme?
I enrolled in the part-time programme to obtain a stronger theoretical foundation for my career. Unlike a typical MBA, the MEL programme focuses more on hard skills, which was exactly what I was looking for to complement my professional experience.

The university's location near my office reduced commuting time, and while some modules were sequential, splitting the programme over two years was straightforward. The clear calendar allowed me to plan ahead, making it easier to manage both professional and personal obligations.
What has been the most rewarding aspect of the programme?
One of the most rewarding aspects was the opportunity to be challenged academically, especially in solving abstract puzzles within the economic and shipping domains. I loved testing and applying the theories I learned in real-world scenarios and discussing them with industry leaders at my company. This integration of theory and practice was incredibly valuable.

After a decade at sea, I found myself in a niche role in a transactional department ashore. Upon graduating, I transitioned into a more diverse role within my company’s transformation department. Since then, I’ve led several key projects and programmes, including operational excellence and continuous improvement initiatives.

Absolutely. After 15 years of professional experience, the MEL programme helped me put my career into a broader perspective at a world-class university. While you can gain knowledge from books, the MEL programme provides the structure, quality, and academic rigor needed to truly elevate your expertise.
