Admissions and Application Process

Generally, we do not require standardised tests or assessments. However, if the Admissions Committee have any doubts regarding an application, they may ask the applicant to take a GMAT test (MEL Programme code: QK8-8X-12). The Admissions Committee strive to minimize the risk of certain subjects hindering a student while studying at MEL and previous experience has shown that the GMAT has a good predictive value when it comes to programme performance.

The application deadline for non-EU citizens is July 10, while for EU citizens, it is September 15. Admissions may close earlier if the total of 45 spots is filled.

Four components are required for the online application to the MEL master. These components are:

  1. Filled in MEL application form
  2. A relevant bachelor or (exceptionally) equivalent professional experience
  3. Demonstrated proficiency in the English language
  4. Two letters of recommendation

More information about the components required for the MEL programme can be found below.

All students will receive a confirmation once all required application documents have been received by the Center for Maritime Economics and Logistics. If you submitted your application over two weeks ago and have not received a confirmation, please contact us.

Students will be notified about their application status within 2 to 4 weeks after submitting their application.

Tuition, Fees, and Funding Options

The MEL programme is not subsidized by the government and covers its costs through tuition fees. Therefore, irrespective of nationality or background, all students are subject to the same tuition fee.

The tuition fee for the MSc programme covers the costs directly related to the academic programme itself. This includes expenses such as tuition, access to course materials, and academic support services provided by the institution. It is important to note that the tuition fee does not cover additional expenses such as accommodation, meals, travel, books, or personal expenses.

All scholarship information can be found below.

Acceptance Process

Accepted students need to confirm their acceptance, pay any required deposits, and complete pre-enrollment procedures as outlined in their acceptance letter.

Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis, and applicants can expect a response within a few weeks of submission.

Accepted applicants will receive an official offer letter via email. Instructions for the next steps will be included.

General Programme Questions

International students can join the full-time MEL programme and apply for a 1-year student visa, which aligns with the duration of the full-time study programme.

Current immigration regulations do not support issuing 2-year visas for the MEL part-time programme to international students. Therefore, the part-time option is restricted to EU citizens who do not face these visa constraints.

No, international students cannot join the MEL part-time programme because they cannot receive the necessary 2-year visa required for part-time study under current immigration rules.

Calculating a specific ROI for the programme isn't straightforward; it hinges on the effort you invest rather than just financial or time commitments. Factors like the programme's reputation, your career goals, industry dynamics, and your dedication to applying newfound knowledge are crucial. Generally, the MEL programme has significant benefits for those committed to leveraging its opportunities and applying their acquired skills to enhance their careers.

Absolutely! The MEL programme is designed to immerse participants in the field, making it an excellent starting point regardless of prior experience. We encourage applications from individuals with diverse backgrounds who are enthusiastic about learning and contributing to the diverse and constantly evolving maritime and logistics sectors.

In essence there is no difference between the full-time and the part-time programme. MEL is aiming to offer the same amount of knowledge and dept to both programms. The only difference between the programms is the amount of time spent at the university on a weekly basis. The part-time programme takes 24 months to complete, the full-time programme 12 months. Please contact us if you want to have specific information about the part-time programme.

Absolutely. The programme is designed to accommodate students of all ages. Your ambitions and goals are what matter most, and we value the diverse perspectives that older students bring to the programme.

We believe that mixing students from diverse backgrounds and ages creates a rich learning environment. It allows for the sharing of experiences between older and younger colleagues, enhancing the academic experience for everyone involved.

Applicants are encouraged to apply for the year they intend to start. However, deferrals may be granted in exceptional cases upon written request. If approved, the student must pay the advance payment to secure their spot for the following year. Please note that deferrals are only granted once.

No, remote participation is not possible.

The curriculum includes core courses, electives, a thesis project, and practical training opportunities like company visits and seminars.

The full-time programme lasts one academic year from October till September, including coursework and thesis. The part-time programme lasts 2 years.
